This is a Norman motte castle of uncertain date, but presumably belonging to the early 12th century, a time of frequent and often dramatic conflict between the Norman invader and the Princes of Deheubarth, who ruled this district. The castle mound is up to 7m high and 30m across, with a silted up ditch around its circumference. It is now overgrown with deciduous trees.
